Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bülent Balioğlu graduated from Trakya University Faculty of Medicine in 1988 and completed his specialization training in Orthopedics and Traumatology at the Istanbul Health Application and Research Center of the University of Health Sciences in 1996. Throughout his professional career spanning over thirty years, he has served as a specialist physician and academician in various training and research hospitals and university clinics.

Prof. Dr. Mehmet Bülent Balioğlu, who received the title of Associate Professor in 2017 and Professor in 2024, served as a faculty member at the Hamidiye Faculty of Medicine of the University of Health Sciences and at Başakşehir Çam and Sakura City Hospital between 2020 and 2026 before retiring. He currently actively sees patients at his private clinic in Ataköy Towers and continues his academic work.

Areas of Expertise

His work focuses primarily on pediatric spinal surgery and adult spinal pathologies:

  • Early-onset scoliosis (EOS) — Growing rod, magnetically controlled growing rod, Shilla technique, active apical control and hybrid methods, VEPTR applications
  • Adolescent idiopathic scoliosis — Surgical planning and posterior instrumentation
  • Congenital and syndromic scoliosis — Hemivertebra excision, growth-friendly surgery
  • Neuromuscular scoliosis — Pelvic fixation, quality-of-life focused surgery
  • Severe and rigid spinal deformities — Osteotomy, halo-gravity traction
  • Kyphosis surgery — Scheuermann kyphosis, proximal junction kyphosis
  • He works on the surgical treatment of spinal problems due to spina bifida and sacral agenesis, and syndromic scoliosis.
